Report Elimu On Line Workshop 'Internet for Education'
8.4 Presentation Group IV

This group provided a short maigizo presentation of one of the problems and they also provided a diagram for a possible solution
1 Problem: This group presented a short maigizo on the problems encountered when trying to find general information on the internet.  One of the presenters represented the search engine, the other presenter played the part of a site.
Solution: Through their maigizo the presenters illustrated the importance of narrowing ones search by using specific topics and key words. 
2 Problem: The group discussed the ever present problem of student misuse of the internet, especially accessing porno sites.
Solution: 1.   The presenters suggested using filtering mechanisms
2.   They also suggested that the seating layout of the computer lab is of great importance in discouraging students access to porno sites.  They provided a well thought out diagram of a layout of an ideal computer lab which included open views and a complete lack of ‘hidden’ spaces
3.   The presenters also suggested that a supervisor always be present in the computer lab.
3 Problem: The presenters discussed the growing problem of plagiarism among students.  They shared that they have noticed that student papers can be downloaded and turned in as the students own work.
Solution: 1.    The presenters suggested that students should be taught the necessity of giving credit to authors of information that they have found on the internet.
2.    They also suggested that the negative impact of legal ramifications of plagiarism should be made known to students
4 Problem: The presenters regretted the lack of a Tanzanian government curriculum for computer education.  They also decried the lack of any government support for schools/institutions who have taken it upon themselves to add computers to what their schools offer.
Solution: 1.    The presenters offered a creative idea...computer clubs!
2.    They maintained that instead of waiting around for the government ministries to do something, they themselves could network with others and even bring in ‘experts’, teachers and other knowledgeable users to club meetings to exchange information and ideas.
